2016 Texas Rangers All Stars: Cole Hamels and Ian Desmond were named to the American League All Star team, which was announced today.  Desmond was named as a reserve outfielder, while Hamels was named as a member of the pitching staff.

This is the second time Desmond has been named to the All Star team -- he was a National League All Star in 2012, though he was replaced on the team due to injury.  Desmond, who was signed by the Rangers to a one year, $8 million deal this offseason, has been outstanding this year, putting up a .321/.374/.526 slash line while playing quality defense in center field, his first year at the position after being a shortstop prior to 2016.

Hamels has been named to the team for the fourth time.  Hamels has a sparkling 2.93 ERA this year in 107.2 IP, while being the Rangers' #1 pitcher with Yu Darvish on the d.l. the bulk of the season.

The All Star Game is scheduled to be played July 11 in San Diego.
