Casey Kelly won't ramp up throwing program until 2015

SAN DIEGO, Ca. – Padres pitcher Casey Kelly won't significantly ramp up his throwing program until the beginning of next year, U-T San Diego reports.

"He just ran out of season," manager Bud Black said Tuesday. "Where he is now as far as stamina, how he feels, it doesn’t make sense to send him to instructional league or have him throw winter ball. I think, medically, everybody’s saying, 'Let’s keep him rehabbing, let’s get him as strong as possible and … get him ready for spring training.'"

Kelly began playing catch about a month ago in Arizona, but he won't pitch in a game situation before next spring. He is attempting to return from Tommy John surgery.
